Plantation program at Sama Gau
It was very fortunate for us that it was the Birthday of 17th Karmapa during the day of the plantation program. Many locals of Sama Gau and neighboring villages gathered at the Sama Gompa on the occasion of 17th Karmapa’s Birthday and they were very happy that we were going to plant the seedlings on that special day.
The monks of Sama Gompa and neighboring Gompa shared the religious importance of plantation to the local people and explained that planting a seedling is like giving a new life. The words from the Monk on the plantation influenced the locals very much. It was a great opportunity for us to share about the reforestation project to the locals and to let them know about the distribution of seedlings to the local people which can be planted in their private land. The Monks did the inauguration ceremony of the plantation project in a religious way with puja and prayers and planted few seedlings in the private land.
As per the request from the local people we distributed 15000 Jhising species seedlings to the local people and they have planted it in their private land. We also distributed the remaining seedlings to the neighboring village. The plantation program was a very memorable one as all the locals of Sama Gau were involved and were very happy with the project. The locals were very thankful for bringing this project to Sama Gau.
