Nepal's mountain ranges are a popular tourist destination, attracting millions of visitors each year. However, with the growing number of tourists visiting the highlands, the MRTFN (Mountaineering Rescue Training Foundation Nepal) recognized the need for professional training in hotel and lodge management for those in charge of these establishments.
To address this need, the MRTFN, in collaboration with the Austrian Alpenverein, Rechenstein section (AASR), 1060 Rahlgasse 6/2/14 began a 5-year lodge management training program in 1997 with Mrs. Gertrude Reinisch and Mr. Fritz Zawadil. The program was designed to provide women from the mountainous region of Nepal with the skills and knowledge they needed to operate hotels and lodges in the mountains, and to improve the quality of hospitality services in the region.
As part of the training program, participants were given the opportunity to spend three months in the Austrian Alps, from mid-June to mid-September, where they were able to observe how lodges were operated and learn from experienced professionals. From 1997 to 2003, a total of 150 participants took part in the program, gaining valuable hands-on experience in the hospitality industry.
In addition to its economic benefits, the MRTFN's lodge management training program also has environmental and social impacts. By training people to run sustainable and environment-friendly hotels and lodges, the program helps to reduce the negative impacts of tourism on the environment. And by empowering women to operate hotels and lodges, the program helps to increase financial self-sufficiency and support local communities.
Overall, the MRTFN's Lodge Management Training Program has proven to be an important initiative that is helping to improve the quality of hospitality services in Nepal's mountain region and create economic opportunities for the local community. By providing professional training and support, the program is helping to build a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
If you are interested in supporting this initiative and offering training opportunities to participants from Nepal, we encourage you to get in touch with the MRTFN to learn more about how you can get involved.
